This is a regular meeting from 6:30pm to 7:45pm
It’s summer again. The weather in the last couple of weeks has been unseasonably warm and I’m sure our trees are as confused as we are. While the winter preparation has been postponed, it’s still worth reminding that weather around here can change quickly. For conifers and deciduous this means having plans for overwintering and slowly prepare our trees for dormancy. People with tropicals better be on the lookout; there are a few days ahead of us with the temperatures in the low 40s. Depending on your risk tolerance it might not be enough to move them inside, but it’s better to be ready than be caught off guard.
As some of you might already know, Ron had one of his trees entered into the U.S. National Bonsai Exhibition in Rochester, NY, while Loren joined him to enjoy the most prestigious show in the country. Both will talk about the show, their experience and impressions. In this meeting we will also talk more in depth about pest control and prevention. It has been briefly mentioned at the last meeting but we will provide a more structured presentation on the topic.
Agenda of the meeting:
- Ron and Loren will talk about their experience at the U.S. National Bonsai Exhibition
- Ron will talk about pest control and prevention
- Discussion on overwintering strategies for trees and kusamono
- Door prizes (for members)
- Show and tell
